The following are items which have appeared in the "What's New" section of the home page:

3/5/02:  The final report is undergoing final review, and should be available to the public in April, 2002.

11/11/01:  All testing is now complete.  The final report is in process, and should be available in early 2002.

8/20/01:  Paint adhesion test results have been completed.  Conductivity results are expected soon.  The final report should be available by about October.

5/22/01:  Salt fog testing has been completed, and paint adhesion and conductivity testing is nearing completion.  Results are now being compiled.

3/28/01:  Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) testing has been completed.  Salt-fog testing will continue up to 1500 hours.

1/10/01:  Coated panels have been received from coatings suppliers, and salt-fog testing is underway.

10/27/00:  Test panels have been sent to coatings suppliers for coating.  A total of nineteen chromate-free coatings and two control coatings will be included, from seven suppliers.

6/22/00 - Test panel procurement is now underway.

6/18/00 - The final list of coatings for test has been selected.  Per agreement with coatings suppliers, the list will not be published until the report is released.

3/10/00 - Information and sign-up sheets have been prepared for suppliers of chromate-free coatings.

2/1/00 - A kickoff meeting for the project steering group was held at the Corpus Christi Army Depot.  Next step is to obtain commitments from suppliers of alternative coatings to provide coated test coupons.

12/21/99 - The project agreement has been signed, and the project is formally underway.

11/2/99 - A draft project agreement is under review by UTC and Raytheon.  Work on the project will begin upon completion of the project agreement.

8/6/99 - We are moving toward a final project agreement.  When that is in place, the project statement of work will be posted, and the project steering group will finalize the coatings list for the first round of testing.   "Informal" participants will have an opportunity to post comments and suggestions as the steering group's work proceeds.  For additional information on the ongoing administrative aspects of the project, please contact Paul Chalmer at NCMS, (734) 995-4911 or paulc@ncms.org

5/6/99 - Three NCMS members have indicated that they will be formally signing on to the project, and will form the Project Steering Group, together with representation from the DoD Maintenance facility participants.  If your organization is interested in becoming a formal participant, please contact Paul Chalmer at NCMS, (734) 995-4911 or paulc@ncms.org before May 21.  The Project Steering Group is the actual decision making body for the project.

5/6/99 - We have tentatively identified possible laboratories for conducting the salt fog corrosion and the paint adhesion testing.

4/7/99 -

  • Most of the suppliers from the first NCMS Alternatives to Chromium study have been contacted, and several have expressed an interest in submitting samples of newly developed coatings for this round.
  • Next main task is to finalize the project agreement, including the work plan.  If your organization is interested in performing any of the testing, please contact Paul Chalmer at (734) 995-4911 or paulc@ncms.org.   For the previous Alternatives to Chromium project, all testing was done by participants as in-kind contributions.  For this project, a limited amount of funding is available for cost sharing if such funding is necessary and if it will add significant value to the project.

4/6/99 - The AF Pollution Prevention R&D Program Office (AFRL/MLQE) at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio, has just issued a final report on CD for a comprehensive program to evaluate non-chromated conversion coatings for aircraft spray applications.  For more information, contact Joe Kolek at Wright-Patterson AFB, (937)656-5700 or Joseph.Kolek@ml.afrl.af.mil

3/31/99 - Several comments have been received on the draft Statement of Work.  A final version is in preparation.

2/25/99 - A draft Statement of Work is now under review by project participants.  Please contact Paul Chalmer at NCMS, (734) 995-4911 or paulc@ncms.org, for information.

2/4/99 - See the Decisions Pending page to review choices affecting the course of the project, to indicate your preferences, and to submit comments for posting.
